Legislation and House Planning

The Legislation and House Planning Secretariat supports the Prime Minister in coordinating and managing the Government's legislative program.

To do this, the secretariat works closely with:

  • The Leader of the Government in the House of Commons
  • The Minister of State (Democratic Reform)
  • The Leader of the Government in the Senate

The secretariat prepares and manages:

  • The Government's legislative program in Parliament (both in the House of Commons and the Senate) 
  • Advice on parliamentary practices, procedures and issues 
  • Government responses to written parliamentary questions, notices of motion (requesting documents) and petitions (parliamentary returns)
  • Advice on electoral legislation 
  • Policy and legislation relating to democratic and electoral reform
